What we have to offer

We are 121 Miles south of Anchorage on Hwy. 1 to Hwy 9. We are 8 minutes driving time to the nearest town of Seward.

Our (2) 24 Ft. Yurts have (1) large open space for the beds and kitchen w/ private bath. (1) Queen pillow top, (1) Queen Futon couch bed and (2) twin futon beds in each sleeping (6).

Our 30Ft. Yurt has (2) private bedrooms with Queen beds and (2) twin beds in the main living area and private bath. This Yurt sleeps (6).

About us

When life gets hectic, we could all use an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nestled in scenic Bear Lake, on the edge of Kenai Fjords National Park, our Yurts are the perfect summer getaway. With a full kitchen, bathroom, and comfortable room for the whole family, you'll forget that you've ever left home -- except for the sprawling mountain views that surround you. But the good times don't really start until you leave your Yurt. Just a short distance from Exit Glacier, Resurrection Bay, and the Small Boat Harbor, there's something for the whole family. So take an unforgettable vacation, and come on up to the lake.

Things to do

When you stay at Sourdough Sue's Bear Lake Lodging, you have numerous activities to choose from. Probably, the most popular activity near the lodge is watching the salmon run at Bear Creek Salmon Weir. The weir is located just down Bear Lake Road from our yurts and is withing walking distance. Bear Lake is also walking distance from our properties.

When you stay at Sourdough Sue's, you're not far from one of Alaska's most spectacular attractions, Kenai Fjords National Park, and it's hallmark attraction, the Harding Icefield. Kenai Fjords offers you the opportunity to view stunning glaciers and a variety of wildlife, including brown bears, humpback whales, and Steller sea lions.

And, don't forget the famous Iditarod Trail, part of which is located along the edge of Bear Lake. There are hiking trails through out Bear Lake. Note that bear spray is highly recommended. Our yurts have maps with hiking trails inside the Welcome Guests Book.

Amenities

All Yurts have a fridge, microwave, toaster, silverware, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, griddle, Nuwave electric cooker, coffee pot, coffee, cream and sugar. Bedding is included for all beds, towels for bath and Kuma oil stove for heat and WIFI. All Yurts have a private bath with shower, sink and toilet. A propane BBQ is on deck for outdoor cooking. Deck chairs, picnic bench and fire pit for each Yurt. Wood not included. Wood bundles can be bought in town at the local grocery store.
